Outreach

The St. James’ community seeks to “Serve the needs of Montclair and beyond through God’s love.” We are a community that holds service – to ourselves and others – at the center of all that we do. We see service as a mutually-beneficial relationship that brings everyone involved closer to God. To be a missional people, we believe that our community members must reach out to others, and we accomplish our outreach through local service opportunities, mission trips, and global partnerships.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me… Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”  (Matthew 25:35-40)

Local Outreach

Below are the various ways in which the St. James’ community serves the Montclair community and the greater northern New Jersey area.
  • The Sky's the Limit Thrift Store - is a ministry of The Episcopal Church of Saint James and was created to support young adults with special needs, challenges, and gifts in a workplace where they will be treated with dignity and respect.  We currently are employing students from Montclair High School. • Northeast Earth Coalition
  • PATCH (Parents And Their Children), a part of the Prison Ministry of the Diocese of Newark collecting school supplies and holiday presents for children whose parents are incarcerated.
  • Free Little Pantry - Accessible 24/7 on the front lawn through a partnership between the Northeast Earth Coalition and St. James. Non-perishable food donations can be brought or sent to the church, or placed directly into the pantry.

Global Outreach

Recognizing our responsibility as global citizens in the twenty-first century, the St. James community has thoughtfully developed relationships with international organizations that allow us to share our blessings with others.
  • Jerusalem Princess Basma Center - serving families whose children are affected by polio and other disabilities.
  • 14+Foundation -  a NYC-based 501(c)(3) non-profit established to develop, build and operate schools and orphanages in rural African communities.
  • Ukraine Outreach
  • Lamp for Haiti - - a nonprofit, nonsectarian, apolitical organization dedicated to providing health care and humanitarian aid to improve the lives of some of the most marginalized people in Haiti, among the poorest in the Western Hemisphere.
